Initially conceived as country houses for the wealthier classes, over the centuries the intended use has changed: there are several examples of villas used for clerical purposed or indipendent farmhouses i.g. Starting from the fifteenth century, in the Renaissance era, the Villa became a place of recreation away from urban residences with lush gardens and beautiful fountains to relax and enjoy the own vacation. The architecture changed gradually from the opulence up to the neo-classical style of 1700, in which we find most rigorous and classical elements.

Our trip starts in the North of Italy in the lakes area, proud of its exclusive villas like Villa del Balbianello, a charming house built in the eighteenth century where poets and artists of the Italian Risorgimento frequently spent their time. It is located in Lenno (Co), overlooking Lake Como, accessible only by boat: the small dock is used as a scenic route to enter the villa through the iron gate during weddings.
Moving then to Lake Maggiore, this Historical Villa can be reached by boat sailing along the Borromeo islands. Wedding receptions hold here are very sophisticated but natural at the same time due to the elegance of the flower gardens and the late-nineteenth century atmosphere of the venue.
If you are looking for a more intimate and romantic wedding, the ancient and magical atmosphere of Lake Orta is ideal: time gets lost looking the island of San Giulio lies in the middle of the lake, just before the small village of Orta. In the gardens of Villa Bossi you can celebrate civil ceremonies with the stunning background of flower beds and the lake, of course!
